We are pleased to announce the winner of last week’s Monday Nature Mystery, Lisa Benoit!
Congratulations to Lisa for identifying the American Tree Sparrow (Spizelloides arborea).
According to All About Birds, despite their name, these sparrows are actually ground-nesting and ground-foraging birds. Although the female lays only one egg per day until she's got 4 to 6 eggs (and may even skip a day between eggs), the chicks hatch within hours of each other and may not even hatch in the order their eggs were laid.
Each Monday we’ll post a new mystery and identify the previous week’s winner. They’ll receive an ASNV hat or tote bag.
Here is this week’s mystery:
Who is this?
Be sure to post your guess on our Facebook page under the latest Monday Nature Mystery post. Good Luck!
