Volunteer with NVBA

Help us help birds! We are a group of dedicated volunteers working together to protect birds and their habitat both here in Northern Virginia and across the world. Some of our one-time volunteer opportunities are listed below:

  • Saturdays 10am-noon, Habitat Restoration - Dominion Hills - use Signup Genius to volunteer

  • Wednesdays, 3-5pm, Habitat Restoration - Powhatan Springs - use Signup Genius to volunteer

  • Wednesdays, 9:30am-11:30am, Habitat Restoration - Lockwood/Elmwood Housing Complex - use Signup Genius to volunteer

Some of our ongoing volunteer opportunities are listed below:

  • Teaching children about birds & nature (requires 1+ year of birding experience)

  • Leading bird walks (requires 2+ years of birding experience)

  • Leading nature outings

  • Tabling & outreach (requires 1+ year of birding experience)

  • Outreach to underrepresented communities

  • Serving on the board of directors or on a board committee

  • Social media or promoting events

  • Citizen science or data analysis

  • Writing articles for the newsletter or website

  • Advocacy

  • Audubon at Home (visiting properties and advising on native plantings and habitat improvement)

  • Invasive Plant Removal

  • Stretch Our Parks

  • Fundraising

  • Administrative tasks
