We are pleased to announce the winner of our August 23rd Monday Nature Mystery, Jenny Ricks!

Congratulations to Jenny for correctly identifying the flower of the Common Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana). Our native persimmons can be found in old fields and dry woods. They can grow between 15-100 feet tall. The fruit of the persimmon supports birds and many woodland animals like deer and skunk. Want to learn more about this native species? We’ll be offering a special workshop with Oak Spring Garden Foundation in November. To learn more, click here.
