Come out to Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Sanctuary this Saturday for an in-person talk about the Wildlife Sanctuary Program. This talk is part of our Stretch Our Parks effort.
The Wildlife Sanctuary Program promotes citizen participation in conserving and restoring local natural habitat and biodiversity. It offers property owners an opportunity to create habitat for wildlife by planting native plants, removing invasives, and taking other steps to support wildlife.
You can make a difference and take pride in certifying your property as a Wildlife Sanctuary. A volunteer Wildlife Sanctuary Program Ambassador will visit your property to advise on habitat improvements you can make, and later, to certify your yard as a Wildlife Sanctuary. When the animals show up–and they will in response to your efforts– you can apply for certification as a Wildlife Sanctuary. Our motto is, “Let the animals decide.”
If you would like to learn more about the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance and the Wildlife Sanctuary Program, please join us on October 5th at 10:00 AM at the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center to meet and talk with the people who manage these programs. You’ll also learn how the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance is working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to provide assistance on maintaining bird-friendly habitat at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
Its free of charge and there is no obligation to sign up for anything. Just come and learn!
We hope to see you there!
