During the pandemic birding has taken off as a new hobby, especially with a younger crowd as a safe way to get some fresh air and exercise while looking at beautiful flying creatures. It appeals to extroverts and introverts alike. Birding is for everyone and there are many ways to “go birding.”
Join us for an introduction to birding and learn the basics to get you started: Simple bird anatomy, tips for identifying unfamiliar birds, how birds benefit the environment, and how birdwatchers can help birds. Learn about the best places to bird, useful and affordable gear, cool apps, ways you can find others to bird with or find places to bird alone, and what birds you can expect to see during prime migration season.
One ticket needed per viewing device - you are welcome to tune in with your family. Join ASNV to save on this and future programs!
Tina Dudley is the Program Manager for Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, a beginner birder herself, Certified Master Naturalist with Arlington Master Naturalists (ARMN) and author of the blog Animal Intrigue. She is excited to make birding accessible and welcoming to everyone.

An optional in-person field trip, led by Larry Meade, will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 8:00 AM for 20 Introduction to Birding participants. This field trip welcomes children aged 10+ accompanied by an adult. The fee is $10 for youth, $15 for adults. An email with a link to register for the field trip will be sent to all who register for Introduction to Birding. The field trip is first come, first serve and there will be a waitlist. (Location will be in Alexandria, VA. The exact location will be shared with field trip registrants.)
