Please join us for an enlightening lecture on native bees and learn about opportunities to help in their conservation. Our speaker is Celia Vuocolo, the Pollinator Coordinator for the East Region of Working Lands for Wildlife. Celia will cover the biology of pollination and global threats to pollinators. The program will also highlight native bees of conservation concern in Virginia. She will also provide insight on how you can support bees and other insect pollinators on your property.

Celia Vuocolo has over ten years of experience working in wildlife conservation and is the Working Lands for Wildlife Pollinator Coordinator, East Region. Her position is supported by a partnership between Quail Forever and the US Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. Before taking on this role, she was the Private Lands Biologist for [northeast Virginia ] and worked with landowners that are interested in supporting grassland species like the northern bobwhite, native pollinators, and grassland birds. Celia also spent time with the Piedmont Environmental Council and as a Smithsonian Graduate Fellow with the Virginia Working Landscapes program. She is passionate about pollinator conservation, particularly bumble bees, and has spent time surveying and studying the effects of a gut parasite on local bumble bee populations. She is currently working towards a Masters of Natural Resources in Restoration Ecology and Habitat Management at the University of Idaho.
