At this quarterly chapter meeting, guests will gather in the cafeteria of the National Wildlife Federation Building to mingle with other bird-lovers while enjoying snacks and drinks. Attendees are also welcome to bring additional food or beverages to share.

Our quarterly chapter meetings are open to both the general public and NVBA's chapter members. Learn more about our chapter membership and consider joining our flock today! Anyone interested in the birds of northern Virginia is welcome! This event is free, and registration is not required; however, those who RSVP will receive reminder messages.

Raptors in a Changing World

Raptors in northern Virginia face many challenges in our changing world. They are adapting to those challenges in many ways, sometimes successfully, and other times with greater difficulty.

In this presentation, Liz Dennison from Secret Garden Birds and Bees will discuss how raptors use their wits and abilities to survive climate change, toxins in the environment, loss of habitat, and emerging diseases. With live birds on hand, she will look at what gives some raptors a clear advantage over others that allows them to thrive - and even expand their populations. And, of course, we'll talk about why we need to support birds of prey and what we can all do to help them.

Celebrate Birdathon!

We can’t wait to celebrate our 18 Birdathon teams who made it possible for us to reach our fundraising goal this year! We’ll recognize all of our teams, announce our winners and hand out prizes.

We will also take a few minutes to attend to some chapter business - see details below.

This meeting will also serve as our annual members meeting where membership will be asked to vote on NVBA business, including our annual budget for FY27. Please see the meeting agenda below, which includes voting information on board members and the budget.

If you don’t know if you are a member, please contact us at info@nvbirdalliance.org. You can join or renew your membership here. Membership is only $20 per year, and in addition to receiving member discounts on programs, you know you are helping to support local bird conservation and public education. Non-members are welcome to attend the event, but please abstain from voting if you are not a member.

The agenda for the business meeting is as follows:

  • Results of the Birdathon competition.

  • Passing of the FY27 Budget: NVBA has our annual board-approved budget for your consideration. The linked budget includes FY26 for comparison, as well as details on our overall assets.

  • Recognition of Officers and Board Members whose terms are expiring.

  • Voting on New Board Members: This year NVBA has several board members standing for another term - see the list below. We will be voting on all prospective board members as a slate.

  • Voting on New Board Chairs: After the vote on new board members, the membership will vote on the selection of new Executive Committee chairs. Our proposed new chairs are:

    • Edie Juno, incoming President of NVBA
